Using the MA3 Absolute Shaft Encoder to Determine Wind Direction (Student White Paper)
Written by Kevin L. and Justin D. at the Confederation College - Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada
An abstract paper describing the utilization of US Digital's MA3 miniature absolute encoder, within a remote weather station, to test wind speed and direction on a wind vane. The MA3 was selected due to its small size, analog output of 0 to 5 Volts, and the availability of a ball bearing option to provide little to no resistance on the shaft. This paper discusses their project and the outcome of using the MA3 as a position sensor.
