The EA-D-L-10, EA-D-H-10 and EA-R-L-10 encoder adapters use a 10-pin polarized finger-latching connector to cut down on noise, false triggering, and to allow the use of much longer cables. The TTL outputs of our incremental encoders can sink (pull down) just under 4mA and source (pull up) just under 200 uA, this is not always adequate. For long cables (6 to 1000 feet) or noisy environments, these adapter boards will provide additional drive and reduce noise.
The 5-pin TTL output from the encoder can be converted into a 10-pin finger-latching connector with differential signals by using a EA-D-L-10 near the encoder. The differential signal from the EA-D-L-10 is accepted by the PCI-3E-D, PCI-4E-D, USB1-D and AD4B-D interface products. The differential signal may also be converted back to the 5-pin TTL single-ended signal using the EA-R-L-10.
Drivers:
The EA-D-L-5 is a single-ended cable driver that connects to the 5-pin output of our single-ended TTL level incremental encoders. Three single-ended outputs and power and ground inputs are provided through a positive finger-latching connector.
The EA-D-H-5 is the same as the EA-D-L-5, but offers a wide operating voltage range of 9.5 to 32VDC. The EA-D-H-5 allows 5V encoders to be used in high voltage applications.
The EA-D-L-10 is a differential RS-422 cable driver which receives a 5-pin input from any of our incremental encoders. An optional cable can be permanently attached onto the adapter, which will allow the EA to be plugged directly into an encoder. Six differential signal outputs, power and ground connect through a 10-pin finger-latching connector on the EA-D-L-10.
The EA-D-H-10 is the same as the EA-D-L-10, but offers a wide operating voltage range of 9.5 to 32VDC. The EA-D-H-10 allows 5V encoders to be used in high voltage applications.
The EA-D-L-10 and EA-D-L-5 drivers use an industry standard 26C31 driver chip. The EA-D-H-10 and EA-D-H-5 use the ET7272 driver chip. An on-board 0.1 microfarad bypass capacitor across the power pins on each of these adapters compensates for inductance and noise, which can be expected at the end of a long cable.
Receivers:
The EA-R-L-10 is a cable receiver which receives differential signals and converts them to standard TTL single-ended signals. The input is a 10-pin finger-latching connector. The output is a standard 5-pin connector (see connector options for details).
Both receivers use an industry standard 26C32 receiver chip.
