EM1 Component Change Notice

This Component Change Notice is to inform you of an upcoming component change inside some of our optical encoders. The product lines directly affect by this change are as follows:

E-Series:   E2, E3, E5, E6                
H-Series:  H1, H3, H5, H6, H15, HB5M, HB6M, HD25
S-Series:   S1, S2, S5, S6                
T-Series:   T5, T6                                                                              

Component Change Summary: EM1 Module as Replacements

Unless otherwise specified, the US Digital EM1 optical encoder module will be phased in to replace our previous encoder module, HEDS-9000 Series, supplied by Avago Technologies. The process of phasing the EM1 encoder module into our products will take place over the next few months.

Reason for Component Change from HEDS to EM1

This component change is a result of a decision by Avago Technologies to no longer supply HEDS modules to US Digital. However, going forward US Digital will manage its current inventory of the Avago HEDS-9000 series encoder modules to support customers while EM1 production is increased to meet the current and future demand for encoder modules.

History of US Digital’s EM1 Module

US Digital’s EM1 modules, in volume production since 1996, have been carefully designed and rigorously tested with a proven history of reliability. The EM1 module was originally developed to compliment the Avago HEDS module by providing resolutions not offered by Avago, and to serve as a compatible second source if the availability of Avago HEDS modules should become a concern.

Transitioning to the EM1 Module

The next step in this transition is to work with our existing customers to provide any information required to facilitate the change to the EM1 encoder module within their applications. The EM1 encoder module datasheets with detailed specifications are available on our website for download. It is important to note that switching from Avago HEDS-9000 to US Digital’s EM1 encoder modules is intended to be transparent to our customers, as the EM1 modules were designed as a drop in replacement with equal or better specifications.
