Vancouver, WA - US Digital is proud to announce the
release of a new encoder tointerface product, the PCI-3E . Our newest PCI interface
card, the PCI-3E , is similar to the PCI-4E but differs by tracking up to 3 incremental encoders and includes a seperate I/O
port capable of handling four digital inputs and four digital outputs. Multiple cards
can be used concurrently on the same PCI bus of a PC to obtain an additional
number of channels. The PCI-3E provides fast, efficient encoder position
counters for real-time data acquisition applications. An application running on
a PC with a 1.8 GHz processor and Windows 2000 will store approximately 150,000
samples per second to a data array, each sample consisting of the four 24-bit
encoder position counters and a 33 MHz time stamp. The plug-and-play
software automatically detects the existence of one or more PCI-3E cards
on the PCI bus and assigns a unique device ID to each card. Demo software is
included on the CD for Windows 2000/XP. Two versions are
available: the single-ended PCI-3E-S for TTL quadrature inputs, or the
differential PCI-3E-D for RS-422 quadrature inputs. They are available from
stock, usually shipping on the same day that they are ordered.
 Hardware Features:

Encoder input frequency of 4 MHz (cycles per second)and 16 MHz
(quadrature codes per second)
Handles 3 encoder channels with index
Fast real time response
Provides 33 MHz timestamp
Preloadable up/down 24 bit counters

 Software Features:

DLLs for C, C++, Visual Basic
Available in Linux 2.6

Vancouver, WA - The European Union environmental community is eliminating the use of lead and 5 other substances in electronics beginning July 1, 2006. In addition to lead this Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) prohibits cadmium, hexavalent chromium, mercury, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybromintated diphenyls (PBDEs). The current draft of the definition of "lead free" by RoHS indicates a maximum concentration value of 0.1% by weight in homogenous material for lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDEs. A maximum concentration value of only 0.01% by weight in homogenous cadmium will be tolerated.
US Digital has begun theprocess of evaluating, testing and specifying alternatives for the aboveprohibited substances. US Digital's goal is to achieve RoHS compliance for all encoders and inclinometers by July 1, 2006.
If you have any questions about US Digital's RoHS compliance plan please contact our sales department.

Introducing the MD2S

Vancouver, WA - The MD2S is a universal programmable microstepping motor driver
capable of driving size 17 to 42 stepper motors. Switch selectable resolutions
from 5 to 256 microsteps per motor step and integrated resonance cancellation
firmware provide smooth quiet motor performance. The standard MD2S provides selectable motor currents from 0.5 to 7.0 Amps per winding in 0.5 Amp
increments. The low current option provides selectable motor currents from 0.2
to 3.6 Amps per winding in 0.05 Amp increments. The MD2S uses a novel
highly efficient pump up / recirculate PWM cycle which significantly reduces
power loss and motor heating. There are two different
versions available for the MD2S . The P -version accepts Step &
Direction or quadrature inputs from a motor controller or optical encoder. The
D -version provides a practical method to digitallly control the speed of
a stepper motor without the need for a motor controller. 4 digital inputs and 8
DIP switches provide the ability to ramp up and down, run slow or fast, and
reverse directions. The MD2 family is a very flexible FPGA based product. US
Digital can easily customize and tailor the firmware of the MD2 to
requested parameters and behavior for special customer versions. The 4 digital
inputs and 8 DIP switches of the MD2 may be assigned to perform different
functions and often eliminate an external motor controller. For example: Execute
a home cycle and respond to the inputs to make a series of pre-programmed moves.
Simply share your request with our applications engineers for quick turnaround
and a practical quote. The MD2S may be
combined with other US Digital products to construct a simple motion control
building block. Any motion controller which provides step and direction
outputs can be easily interfaced to the MD2S . The MD2S is
available from stock with little or no lead-time. Features:

29 microstepping resolutions from 5 to 256 microsteps per step
0.5 to 7.0 Amps per phase current in 0.5 Amp increments
Low current option: 0.20 to 3.6 Amps per phase current in 0.05 Amp
increments
Single +16 to +50VDC supply voltage

 Applications:

Pick and Place
Digital Speed Control
Automated Dispencing
X-Y Table Control
Robotics
